Outside Ontario?

Dear Ontario Supporter,

I am reaching out about an urgent initiative that needs your immediate attention and action—the Brainable program, a flagship educational initiative developed by Women’s Brain Health Initiative (WBHI). This transformative program, which has already made a significant impact on over 22,000 students, is now at risk of being discontinued due to a lack of sustained funding.

Brainable empowers students in grades five to eight with critical knowledge of the Six Pillars of Brain Health: Stress Management, Exercise, Mental Stimulation, Social Activity, Nutrition, and Sleep. These lessons address a mounting crisis in youth mental health—one that cannot wait.

The Problem is Clear

Program evaluation from Queen's University, conducted by Drs. Heidi Cramm and Erna Snelgrove-Clarke, reveals alarming trends from exit surveys of Brainable participants. Many students report struggling with screen and social media addiction—issues that disrupt their sleep, diet, exercise, and stress management, all key components of the Six Pillars.

These challenges are not abstract. Children are identifying their struggles and asking for help. While bans on devices or social media are being explored in various jurisdictions, evidence shows these measures alone are ineffective. Education is the key.

Why Brainable Works

Brainable is not just another program; it’s a proven solution. It equips students with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions and build healthier habits, helping them take control of their device use rather than being controlled by it.

Despite its overwhelming success and cost-effectiveness—just $30 per student—Brainable’s future is uncertain. WBHI’s initial funding from the Ministry of Education has ended, leaving more than 3,000 students on a growing waiting list. WBHI is seeking three years of funding to ensure this vital program reaches more students and sustains its momentum.

Brainable Delivers Results

This program fills a critical gap in Ontario’s school curriculum. With children increasingly on mental health waitlists and emergency room visits on the rise, Brainable stands out as a robust and engaging solution validated by a strategic advisory board of experts, parents, and educators.
