Host a party to "remember" to combat women's brain aging diseases

by Newsday:Holiday get-togethers take on new meaning this year with the launch of Memory Morsels parties, a global fundraising project from the Women’s Brain Health Initiative (WBHI) to raise awareness and money to support women’s brain health research.“Hosting a Memory Morsels party is a way for anyone to raise awareness and funds in a creative and meaningful way,” said Lynn Posluns, Founder and President of WBHI. “It is an especially fitting way to celebrate the holidays that are often about building long-lasting memories with families and friends.”Each year, millions of mothers, wives, sisters and daughters disappear without leaving the room. This is because women are twice as likely to be affected by depression, dementia and stroke. In fact, 70 per cent of new Alzheimer’s sufferers will be women. Despite this alarming statistic, research into brain diseases continues to focus on men. WBHI will focus the money raised from Memory Morsels to better balance the discrepancy in research for women. To host an easy and fun Memory Morsels party:

  • Access the online all-in-one party planning kit.
  • Register the party. This step will prompt the setup of fundraising goals.
  • Invite friends and family.
  • Create a party to remember with downloadable brain health fact cards, recipes, shopping lists and more.

Part of the experience is dining on delicious food that is brain-healthy such as fish (important for brain function), spinach (protects against cognitive decline), walnuts (provides oxygen to the brain) and red wine (prevents memory loss). For a dash of distinctiveness or sprinkles of inspiration, check out WBHI’s Pinterest page for party ideas to make this a season to REMEMBER.About WBHI:The Women’s Brain Health Initiative is a Canadian registered charity inspired to combat women’s brain aging disorders through investment in focused, innovative research at leading institutions around the world.
